The Reason for the Season

Here in the southern hemisphere, we tend to enjoy celebrating ‘Christmas in July’ because we get to eat and enjoy European hot seasonal foods when it is our wintertime! Instead of our normal Christmas fare which is generally salads, sea foods and cold ice-cream puddings!
Some festive foods are generally Yule logs decorated with mushrooms etc to give that forest and earthy woodland feel!
Wild mushroom foraging season in Australia peaks during autumn and early winter (late March to June), when cooler temperatures and steady rainfall trigger fungi growth.
Why am I talking about this season in particular? Because of Mushrooms!
Mushrooms I am told remind us that endings are necessary ingredients for fresh starts and they are the visible ‘fruit’ of a much larger underground network and interconnectedness.

When searching the internet, I found an article of a guy who also struggled with God telling him, he was a ‘Mushroom’
I went back to God and began to journal again. Here’s what I received:
“Mushrooms grow suddenly, they grow overnight! Stop thinking that your growth will take a long time. You have a foundation. You have the experience. You have the cells to grow. Those cells will grow rapidly—quickly—and before you know it you will reach the level I’ve called you to. Over the years you’ve been creating the cells and manufacturing the compost. Now, at anytime, boom!
“You’ll be at the level and in the place I want for you to be, in your job, in your health, even in your finances. Mushrooms grow in the dark, but they also grow quickly, this is why I called you a mushroom for this is what it will be for you. It will look as if nothing is happening, and then suddenly things will appear. Don’t always look at what you can see, often a lot is happening when you can’t see it.
“Things will happen overnight. It will happen overnight! There are going to be some things that you don’t understand that you WILL understand but you’re not going to know how you understand them. There are going to be some things that you can just do, and you won’t know how you learned to do them.
“There will be some things that just happen and just appear, and you’ll think they are strange, but all of these things have been growing underground, growing behind the scenes and you are about to step into them an overnight blessing—in My Word I call it ‘by this time tomorrow.’ Things can happen overnight!”
The mushroom is a metaphor.
Just like mushrooms suddenly appear and grow overnight, answered prayers are going to suddenly appear, quickly, but they won’t be premature but mature and fully developed. Just like suddenly the Holy Spirit came Acts 2:2. Just like all of a sudden the prison doors were burst open in Acts 16:26. Just like suddenly the man came to Jesus and was healed in Matthew 8:2.
· The right opportunity may appear
· That invitation to step up
· That role God has been nudging you about
· That open door
By this time tomorrow, these things can literally appear just like the mushroom does. The key is to realize that just because things can’t be seen on the surface, doesn’t mean that nothing’s happening underground. Get ready and expect things to happen out of nowhere.

I have not long been back from travelling overseas and currently in the midst of huge personal upheaval of packing to move when my granddaughter questioned what my topic or picture for my phone cover was to be for this month…. God was showing me ‘Mushrooms’
Along with discarding a lot of items from our home, general usage and what is familiar I am struggling to come to terms with all that I have had around me for the last 20 years is now having to be just let go! Not that I really want to be letting things go but I am having to because we are ‘downsizing’.
Obedience
One of the things we have had to let go of is having a regular fortnightly group of friends and acquaintances who came to our home for fellowship, discussions, food and although we would have loved to keep this going there was sadly no other home offered to continue our repertoire.
Not that we will stop meeting up individually as friends, but it is sad to not be able to continue what we had enjoyed in the past. Letting go of the past is hard but at our final catch up a few weeks back it was shared that if we are ‘obedient’ in the small things the Lord asks of us then He will be willing to allow us opportunities to be obedient in bigger things for Him!
Trusting God with the next step
Do I trust the Lord to bring more opportunities my way? I most certainly do!
While out having coffee with a friend recently, the Lord highlighted this scripture to me…
‘The Lord God is my strength, He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills’ – Habakkuk 3:19
Lord, I pray you will give me a heart to be spontaneous and ready for your next move for where next – that when it springs up, I will perceive it!
‘See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland’. - Isaiah 43:19 NIV
