What Is It You Are Asking For?

Mark 11:24: "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (NIV)

John 14:13: "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (NIV)

Matthew 21:22: "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (NIV)

John 15:7: "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." (NIV)

Over the years I have prayed things to the lord on many occasions and later on when I receive them, I am rather astonished, but I shouldn’t be because His word is truth and He says that whatever we ask of Him – He will accomplish in us!

Psalm 138:8 (ESV/NIV): "The Lord will accomplish his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever."

I remember one time, after having gone through a tumultuous season of health issues in our family, a daughter’s wedding on top of that, also putting down a ministry I loved and then having to find another job – it had all compounded intensely!  Very soon after I was blessed to have a work role that God supplied for me and although I was ok in doing it, I was constantly saying to the Lord – ‘I would rather that role in office next door though’.

It would seem that I was very ungrateful, but I was thinking it would be a calmer fit for me to come in on the days I worked to just get stuck in and do the job!  Low and behold I was eventually offered that role and I gratefully accepted – only to discover that it was not the calm fit I was hoping for because in giving it to me they changed the dynamics of it!

Not only had I been given what I asked for but I totally went home complaining to my husband every day and asking God why He gave it to me!  For the next three years (approx. 15yrs ago) my workspace went from mainstream computing to upgrading to everything in the cloud and operating programs being processed from new apps and a whole lot more!  On top of that, the workspace I now occupied had others around me that caused verbal distress as well!

At the end of that season though, God stepped in and opened a door that offered me something amazing - a ministry my heart was very attached to and all they needed to know was if I could use 5 programming fundamentals – of course, God had arranged for me to learn all 5 over the last three years that I had spent complaining about it!

So, my question at the beginning of this blog was – ‘What is it you’re asking for?’

As some may have read in my last blog written in March, I have stepped into an unknown space and although I do acknowledge that the Lord has assisted us to be at this point, I am feeling a little out of my depth.  I am now processing again, Lord, what is it, actually that I am asking of you for me and my hubby to walk this journey out for you and what have you planned for us up ahead moving forward?

As shared earlier, I asked for a work role and got it but was not really expecting the magnitude of what that role meant.  So too this move of sorts would seem good to us but in doing it, what does the Lord have in store for us once we are there and how will it play out for His purpose.

When we pray prayers asking something of the Lord, are we being specific or just vague?  I recently sat listening to a pod cast from our senior pastor and he shared that God wants us to exercise our faith – so we need to pray in Hope and trust in God for the outcome!

Just this past week I returned ‘home’ from being overseas for the last five and a half weeks and it was amazing.  Not only experiencing new cultures, activities but so many beautiful sights from across the world.  I do not have a fondness for travel as over the years each time I have ventured internationally there has generally been a downfall in my health and I have had to seek out a medical practitioner to assist me with what ails.  Because of that there has normally been time spent bedridden and it has taken a lot of the enjoyment out of travelling for me.

This last trip (& one other mission trip in 2008) was relatively event free Praise God, and I have come home only feeling a little tired, which I believe most people do 😊

Now back on home soil (although not yet in my own physical home), I am looking toward what God is asking me to focus on for our future.

Prayer:

Lord I believe you have called for me to pray the meaning of (8) over where I am moving to, (Eight = Shemoni, literally to ‘make fat’, new beginnings, ‘fat’ is having more than enough, full to overflowing, moves from natural to supernatural, alluding to greater authority, accountability & holiness (set apartness))

So Heavenly Father as you blessed us with your grace over our home purchase and called us to ‘ask again’ of you I know you will continue gracing us moving forward and encouraging us to ‘ask again’ for your favour, blessing and anointing in this season.

We desire to see your favour in sharing your gospel with others who live around us and those we meet, to bring them to know you Lord Jesus in your perfect timing.

Fill our new home with your oil & anointing Heavenly Father that everyone who enters will experience you in some extraordinary measure.

My heart desires to see others around us cared for and their needs spiritually met but I desire to continue kindling a fire within for all my Heavenly Fathers asks of me and spending quality time asking to be filled with more oil myself to do what is needed as I say ‘Yes’ to what He has in store for this season.
